Shakugan no Shana II (Dropped)

Written by
Shakugan no Shana II (Dropped)

So, after taking a closer look at the BD RAWs of Shana 2, we're going to drop the project. Why? Cause the TV Rips look better than the BD. This is by far one of the worst BDs I've seen to date. But Shana I looked like shit too! Yeah, and the only reason I finished it is because no matter how it was encoded, it still looked better than the TV Rips and DVD Rips. Anyways, take a look at these two screenshots after the break. Notice Ike's eye and the loss of quality throuhgout.

TV Source (Stretched out to 1080p)

Anyways, we're dropping this. I suggest you go grab the [SS-Eclipse]'s release if you don't have it already. It's pretty damn good.

But wait... I have some good news. Shana III, being so new, will be good enough for a BD release. So, you can look forward to that :)

I have a problem with both the TVrip and BD. SS-Eclipse's release has a hectic amount of banding which really annoys me, and yet the BD is oversharpened. I was looking around if there was a good DVDrip but I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know?

The DVD is great for this, much better than both TV and BD quality:

Just a question; Were there any important hardsubs signs in ss-eclipse release that i would miss?

I disagree. The colors are more apparent in the TV release.

Possibly, but there's definitely more detail in the DVD release. Look at the chain fence next to Shana's right leg, and the ground below it. That's not just sharpening - the texture of the fence/ground is completely gone on the TV rip.
And that banding on the red light in the TV rip.

Holy god, I was looking at the thumbnail and thinking, "what's he talking about the BDs look fi-*open full image* OH GOD, MY RETINAS, THEY'RE BURNING THROUGH THE BACK OF MY SKULL!"

No really JC Staff. Da fuck?

Are there any differences between the DVD/BD and the TV versions like added details or something like that, or is it just a matter of video quality?

What would you recommend me: your s1 Bluray or SS s1 TV releases and why?

But you also did Lucky Star!

Lucky star didn't have the image ruined by sharpening. In fact, wasn't really sharpened at all. So, we still had the original content to work with.

This, on the other hand, has lost so much detail through the studio's sharpening attempts that it's unrecoverable.

In my opinion I think that the DVD version looks much better than the BD version for season 1

Though I don't know if DECAY did a good encode though. Elysium's release still looks pretty good.

In alot of scenes, I can agree with you. However, it's not exactly as clear cut of a difference as the 2nd season is. That example you showed is one of the worse ones. On top of that, DECAY is known to sharpen their releases like crazy, so I wouldn't trust a SS from DECAY that much.

I was hopping for BDrips

And to think, all that hopping for nothing. I bet you got some nice leg muscles now at least.

I believe this is the torrent. Tossing it on my seedbox (I have to download a copy first too). Maybe if anyone has a copy of this can help seed for awhile.

Cheers.

@Revalo I believe a decent Shana I DVDrip is superior to the BDrips, which have color and aliasing issues.

I think the Shana II BDs balatantly suck, so dropping this is a good decision in my opinion. Better to put your work on other, more deserving projects :)

btw, I was wondering if your Shana I really did look better than the tv...
When I compared it to my TV releases it did have a sharper look, however it suffers from the same details loss as described here.

Can you show me your comparison of TV versus BD for Shana I? ( I might be doing something wrong)

Damn was looking forward to this release seeing as its hard to find Shana II torrents. Guess I'm gonna need to look around again to find it somewhere.

damn, I was hoping you'd do it since I can't seem to find subbed DVDrips, I hate it when anime gets licensed >w> I'd be fine with it if I could buy it but... licensed or not it's pretty much the same for me, cuz I still have to import it -_- just that licensed makes it so friggin hard to find torrents and the like.

Anyways, if anyone can direct me to where to find the dvd versions, I'd be deeply indebted and truly grateful >w> if not I guess I'll have to do with Eclipse's "HDTV" ver.

It's not even worth 720p?

# killazys | 2012-01-31 14:29
No. DVD rips are better.

# ghghfgh | 2012-01-31 02:33
You could try using the DVDs, seeing as SS-Eclipse's was upscaled from an SD transport stream.

# killazys | 2012-01-31 14:29
Upscale on your end and apply ffdshow post-processing filters if you feel the need to.

There's no point in upscaling a source for release.

Damn, why is JC Staff so bad at blu-rays? Are they just bad at everything they do?
